First Survey on Visual Literacy in Adolescents in Catalonia (2025)
We are delighted to share the results of a pioneering survey on visual literacy among adolescents in Catalonia. Conducted as part of the collaboration between the Fundación Photographic Social Visual and the Visual Trust: Anthropology Against Disinformation project, this initiative examined the visual literacy competencies of adolescents aged 12–16 in the context of digital overexposure and the rise of artificial intelligence.
The survey was carried out between November and December 2024, reaching 1,868 adolescents across 168 educational centers. To gain deeper insights into adolescents’ visual literacy skills and the challenges they face, the results were complemented with focus groups and expert interviews.
Based on these findings, the Visual Trust project contributed directly to drafting recommendations for teachers, educational teams, and public policy guidelines. These contributions aim to strengthen administrative structures, funding mechanisms, and transversal education in visual literacy, ultimately fostering critical and engaged citizenship.
